NEWS Sept 10, 2017

Welcome back!! I know, it really should say welcome back to me! It has been quite awhile since a proper update. But summer is over and fall routines have started. As with school and fall activities, I am getting back into the routine of regular updates.

We have been working on getting fall programs up and running. We have also worked to bring the Parkridge soccer program back. We are working on engaging and meeting our neighbours. A few things to look forward to this coming year...

Fun Day in the Park. It is happening on Sept 17th, 3-8pm. Bouncy castles, glitter tattoos, demonstrations from community activity groups like rhythmic gymnastics, POI and hula hooping, and fireworks. This is a great opportunity to get out with your neighbours and friends and spend an afternoon in our beautiful park.

Monthly meetings will be starting back up soon. Check out back here and Facebook for the locations and times. Note the AGM is October 19th!

Fall program registration is available under our programs tab. Please check back as we are planning on adding a few new programs in the coming weeks.

I know several of you participated in our needs assessment in the winter but we always love to hear from you. This is YOUR PCA. Please let us know if you have questions or concerns or what we can do to engage our neighbours. Please email parkridge.sk@gmail.com with your comments.

Looking forward to updating you more often, seeing you in the neighbourhood and hearing from you!! Happy fall!

What's happening this week - March 5 - 11 2017

Weather

It looks like the weather will be on everyone's mind this week after the lovely weather we have had recently. Please remember to clear walkways, pick up after your pets and DRIVE SAFE! Walking and driving can be a little treacherous in weather like this so go slow and be courteous of of others.

NEXT PCA meeting

The next PCA meeting is March 7, 2017 at James L. Alexander School at 7pm. Hope to see you there.

PCA positions

We have a few positions vacant on the PCA executive, which we would love to fill. But also, if there is a position of interest to you and it is already filled, please let us know. This could be an opportunity to build a team or shuffle our volunteers around.

PCA executive position description/profile

What's happening this week...

February is upon us and the weather has been pretty remarkable. Hopefully everyone has had the opportunity to enjoy it. Here are your updates for this week of February 19-25th.

Sleigh Rides are canceled!!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Parkridge sleigh rides have been canceled for family day (Feb 20th). Stay tuned for other community events. And if you saw the Facebook post about the Cameco Meewasin skating and sleigh rides for Feb 20th, they have been postponed until March 5th. Enjoy the nice weather and let us know on Facebook how you spent Family Day.

Indoor Programs/Classes will not run this week.

For the week of the Feb 20th to 24th, there are no indoor programs (including soccer practices) due to school closure.

Needs Assessment

Thank you to everyone who submitted comments and feedback to our needs assessment. We really appreciate all the responses. We will be working on a summary and get it posted here shortly. And if you didn't have a chance to respond but would still like to submit your input, please feel free to email one of our executive members. We would love to hear from you.

Volunteer Positions

We will also be posting descriptions of the various positions with vacancies with the PCA. Specific positions we are looking for immediately are treasurer, secretary, president, and soccer coordinator. Without these positions, we are unable to run the PCA programs. If you have skills that would be an asset to these positions, please let us know. If you are worried about going it alone, don't. Our executive want to work together and help each other out. There is also an opportunity for small teams to take on these positions. This can be ideal for mature high school students and university students to gain some experience and gather valuable volunteer involvement for the resume.

Future accountants... work together as a team on financials. Future marketing/branding majors... work on the PCA social media sites. Future journalists... work on our website and provide updates, news and happenings to the community. Future social planners... work on community building events.  Future contributing members of society... work on anything you find of interest with a great team of people.

You don't have to go it alone. If we get a large group of people working together, there is little work for any one individual and everyone benefits.

Please contact your executive if you or someone you know is interested in joining the team!

Upcoming events

Sports registration

Saskatoon Phantoms Registration is open online. If you have a softball/fastball player in your household but haven't yet registered, now is the time. Register early to allow the coordinators time to formulate teams and gather the necessary resources for a successful season. There will be one in-person session on Tuesday Feb 7th from 7 - 8:30 pm at Fairhaven School Library. They are also looking for coaches, so check out the website to sign up for coaching or just to see if there requirements.

Baseball registration should be opening soon. Parkridge is in the Saskatoon A's zone (http://saskatoon-as.com/).  I will update the programs tab once more information if available.

Also coming up... soccer. We will be needing a new soccer coordinator in the near future. Parkridge Community is planning on working with neighbouring communities to continue to offer soccer to our up and coming soccer stars. If you are interested in helping out with the soccer program, please contact a member of the PCA or email at parkridge.sk@gmail.com. Stay tuned for information on spring session registration.

Next PCA Meeting

Needs Assessment and More Updates

NEEDS ASSESSMENT

Wow, isn't this weather something else?! What a change from the VERY cold temps we had recently. But this isn't news, so what is new?

We have had fantastic participation in our Needs Assessment survey so far. We really appreciate all the feedback. I am including a link to our full survey here. It has been posted to Facebook but we want to get it out to more people. If you have already filled out the one previously posted on the website, feel free to complete this one (optional). There are a few more questions that may help direct our resources. We will leave it open indefinitely, but we do plan to provide a report on what we have heard at our next PCA meeting. Don't worry...for those that can't make it, we will make it available on Facebook and on the website.

OTHER UPDATES

Saskatoon Phantoms registration is now open. There is a small announcement bar at the top of our page where we try to put short news. Clicking the bar may direct you to the resource in the news. In this case, it will take you to the Saskatoon Phantoms website. Or check out the programs section under softball/fastball heading.

St. Marguerite School has kindergarten information night on Thursday, January 26th at 7pm at the school. If you have a little one going into kindergarten in the fall, attend this meeting and get the information and even register!

How about high school?! Do you have a not so little one going into high school in the fall? Saskatoon Greater Catholic Schools and Saskatoon Public Schools are holding their high school open houses in the next few weeks. This is an opportunity to check out what the different schools have to offer and allow your teen to check it out.

Christmas Light Contest!! Great job Parkridge!! Your executive enjoyed driving around the neighbourhood checking out the great masterpieces. We may have missed some of you this year as we did go out after Christmas but we hope to do it just before Christmas in 2017. Get out and get your Christmas gear on sale and start planning for next winter!

Due to a technical difficulty, the pictures have not been posted yet - so don't look for them. But I hope to have them up soon. The winners have been contacted. And we want to share their works of art, so stay tuned!

Positions available on the PCA executive - You may have heard that we have several positions available on our executive. Without volunteers, programs such as yoga, soccer, Day in the Park, community rinks and coordination for upgrades to catwalks/walkways may not occur. It may seem overwhelming to take on President if you have not attended a PCA meeting, but don't worry. We welcome all members of our community at our meetings. And any little bit of help is beneficial. We are a great team willing to work together to bring great programs, social events and work on safety issues - as a team! And some of you may just have the skills we need for roles such as secretary or treasurer. We hope to get job descriptions written and posted. BUT AGAIN, any help is GREAT! You can do some of the job, GREAT, come to our meeting or contact a PCA executive! You aren't sure what you can do, GREAT, come to our meeting or contact a PCA executive!

Happy New Year! Call for Feedback

Hello Neighbours - and a very Happy New Year to you all.  We are hoping that this year, Parkridge will be the Community Association to be envious of and we're starting the year with a "Needs Assessment Meeting".

The meeting will take place January 10th at James L Alexander School and will start promptly at 7pm - in the school library.  One of our PCA Executives will greet our neighbours at the door for those not familiar with the school layout.  We'll have refreshments so no excuse not to swing by and say hello!

We will start off our meeting with quick introductions and a little bit about where we stand as of now.  One of the main parts of the meeting will be to gather thoughts on everyone's needs - please be ready to list your "Top 10" things that are MOST important to YOU within our community.  There will be some overlap on ideas and we will then prioritise and discuss the most popular of those items and how to re-structure our PCA so that we can accommodate all our neighbours' needs. Some of you may have noticed that we have not delivered a newsletter as yet for January.  At our last meeting, it was determined that we would only print the newsletters 4 times a year now rather than 6 times and as there has been no feedback from any of our neighbours after multiple requests for feedback - we are unsure if this is even a required item now!  Please do let us know your thoughts on this.

You will have noticed with our new website, we made mention of the fact that we are very short on volunteers and Board Members.  As we are currently without a Chairperson or Vice Chairperson, Michelle (Social Media Coordinator and School Liaison for St. Marguerite) and Sally (Communications Coordinator) have both stepped up to take on the positions of Co-Chairs.  Outside of their roles within the PCA, they both work full-time and have children in Elementary School and High School.  They will be running the meeting and are hoping for a really good turnout to see what our community needs.  As mentioned previously, our community is not the same as it was 5 or 10 years ago and will not be the same in 5 or 10 years time - so we really do need to know what YOU want in our Community.

If you are unable to make the meeting, please don't hesitate to email either Michelle (parkridge.sk@gmail.com) or Sally (parkridge.sk.newsletter@gmail.com) and send in you Top 10 requirements to be added in.  Then watch this space for the outcome!

Message from PCA

Hello Neighbours - we hope this notice finds you all well and getting in the Holiday Spirit!

Michelle and Sally - as your newly elected Co-Chairs for the PCA - wanted to let you know that they attended a workshop recently put on by the City of Saskatoon for Community Association Presidents.  It was networking / brain-storming / training session that boasted a turnout of about 45 people.  They met some Presidents and Vice Presidents of many of the other CA's in the city and they left feeling energized and with lots of GREAT ideas on how to make our Community Association better!

The most important lesson they learned is that the first thing our community must do is to actually assess what we are and what we need within our Community.  Our Community may not be the same as it was 2, 5 or 10 years ago and it may not be the same as it will be in 2, 5 or 10 years time!

We have had to cancel our December meeting, but Michelle and Sally will be working hard on preparing the Needs Assessment information and look forward to your input when we next meet on January 10th, 2017.  A discussion on how best to undertake a "Needs Assessment" will be presented, so watch this space for more news!

Until then - Michelle is working hard on the new website so that we are ready for Indoor Programs Online Registration for the activities that Deanna has been working hard on getting for our community and Sally is working on the first of the 2017 Newsletters as well as alternative ways to distribute them.
