![]() Citizen Patrol InformationCitizen Patrol is a joint partnership between the residents of Saskatoon, Community Associations, and the Saskatoon Police Service. It is designed to involve the public in an opportunity to make their communities safer places to live. It provides training and support to concerned volunteers who wish to take a more active role in preventing crime and reporting suspicious activity to their neighborhoods. Although volunteers have no police powers, carry no weapons, and are non-confrontational, they provide a visible presence as a deterrent to criminal activity. Citizen Patrol coordinates with the police and aids the police dispatch when suspicious persons or activities are observed. Volunteers are trained by the police to be aware of suspicious activities or persons and able to pass accurate information to police. They are identified by use of vests or armbands and always work in teams. Patrols may be on foot or in vehicles supplied by the volunteers. Target areas such as parks, strip malls, and schoolyards are given priority for patrols. |
